Meet The Doctors

Irene Aguilera-Barrantes, M.D.

Dr. Aguilera earned her medical degree from the Escuela Autónoma de Ciencias Médicas de Centroamerica, San Jose, Costa Rica. She completed her clinical and anatomical pathology residency training at The Ohio State University, where she served as chief resident in her senior year and graduated in 2008. Dr. Aguilera then completed two years of fellowship, in surgical pathology and gynecologic pathology respectively, at the prestigious University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.

Dr. Aguilera served as a faculty member at the Medical College of Wisconsin where she focused on gynecological and breast pathology and was closely involved with the training of pathology residents and medical students, earning the recognition of faculty teacher of the year for the period 2014-2015.

Dr. Aguilera joined Tucson Pathology Associates in 2018 and currently serves as the laboratory medical director for Banner Casa Grande Medical Center.
Dr. Aguilera is certified in Anatomical and Clinical pathology. Her preferred interests are Surgical pathology with emphasis in breast and gynecologic pathology.
